Засоби вираження вторинної мовної особистості в англомовному художньому дискурсі

Abstract

У статті проаналізовано підходи щодо вивчення і сучасний стан дослідження категорії мовна особистість і вторинна мовна особистість. Наведено дефініцію категорії вторинна мовна особистість та обґрунтовано вибір британської письменниці українського походження Марини Левицької як одного з представників вторинної мовної особистості. Охарактеризовано її трьохрівневу структуру та засоби вираження прагматичного, лінгвокогнітивного і вербально-семантичного рівнів на матеріалі англомовного роману «Коротка історія тракторів українською». This article defines such categories as linguistic identity and secondary linguistic identity and outlines different approaches to their investigation. It explains choosing the British writer of Ukrainian origin Maryna Lewycka as a representative of secondary linguistic identity. The analysis of her English novel «A Short History of Tractors in Ukrainian» proves that her secondary linguistic identity is revealed through the pragmatics, cognitive structures and vocabulary of her novels. Having studied the pragmatic level, we arrived at the conclusion that describing in details everyday life in Ukraine writer’s target audience was the British, as her main intention was to facilitate cross-cultural communication between Ukraine and the UK. As for the cognitive structures, the novel features verbalised in the text conceptual metaphors that reveal both author’s Ukrainian and British identity. The vocabulary of the novel abounds with numerous Ukrainian and English place names, people’s names as well as culturally-biased words, which contributes to creating two cultural levels within one text. Author’s bilingual nature also results in transliterated Ukrainian words, deviations of grammar rules while making questions and transcribed mispronounced words of the characters.
