Дефініція та функції англійської фольклорної легенди

Abstract

У статті методом аналізу наявних у науковій літературі уявлень щодо типових характеристик тексту легенди обґрунтовано її функціональне призначення та диференційні жанрові ознаки. На підставі встановленої векторної ієрархічно супідрядної системи функціональних характеристик легенди, яка охоплює її загальну функцію, функціонально-прагматичне спрямування та конкретне функціональне призначення, запропоновано уточнення узагальненого формулювання поняття легенди як фольклорного жанру. In the article by means of analyzing the information on typical features of a legend the author suggests the system of its leading functions and differential genre characteristics. It is emphasized that a specific feature of the legend as a prosaic folklore genre is in the fact that arising from real events it acquires its form on the basis of idealized ideological representations, thus gaining a considerable potential of realizing a subliminal influence. Considering this as well as the established vector-oriented hierarchical subordination of legend functions, which embrace its general function, functional-and-pragmatic orientation and a definite functional aim, the author formulates a generalized expanded definition of the notion of a folk legend as the genre.
