Фразеологічні одиниці на позначення чесності й нечесності в сучасній англійській мові

Abstract

У статті здійснено спробу виявити англійські фразеологічні одиниці, що позначають чесність і нечесність у сучасній англійській мові. На сучасному етапі розвитку лінгвістики антропоцентричний напрям усе частіше привертає увагу лінгвістів. Актуальність дослідження зумовлена спрямованістю сучасних мовознавчих студій на поглиблене вивчення людини як мовної особистості й носія морально-етичних якостей. Серед досліджу¬ваних одиниць виокремлено фразеологізми, які слугують для опису чесної людини та її поведінки, а також фразеологічні одиниці, які позначають нечесність, нечесну людину та її вчинки. The article is an attempt to reveal English phraseological units denoting honesty and dishonesty in Modern English. Phraseological units are word groups with a fixed lexical composition and grammatical structure. At the present stage of development of linguistics anthropocentric trend is increasingly attracting the attention of linguists. Honesty is regarded as a facet of moral character, it connotes positive and virtuous attributes such as integrity, truthfulness, and straightforwardness, including straightforwardness of conduct, along with the absence of lying, cheating, theft, etc. Furthermore, honesty means being trustworthy, loyal, fair, and sincere. Dishonesty is to act without honesty. A dishonest person is one who can’t be trusted or does not tell the truth. A person may be dishonest or deceptive in a number of ways: by lying, hiding or distorting the truth, cheating in business, love, or other areas of life. One type of dishonesty is duplicity (having 2 sides; being deceptive or hypocritical).
