Lesia Ukrainka was the first author who used the elements of the western Polissian dialects in the emotive prose. The scholars emphasize great artistic skill with which the colloquial speech elements are conveyed in her works. The article traces the history and the main tendencies of the linguistic studies of the folk basis of Lesia Ukrainka’s artistic language. It is claimed that special studies in this field were initiated by V. F. Pokalchuk in the late 1950-ies.The researchers had become increasingly interested in this phenomenon in 1990–2000 when the methodological approaches to the research changed and strongly improved. The emphasis has been laid on the scholars’ conclusions as to the importance of usage of the territorially-differentiated lexical units in Lesia Ukrainka’s texts, especially in the stories describing Volyn and her famous poem «Forest Song». It has been stressed that most researchers of Lesia Ukrainka’s language classify these concrete language phenomena as dialectical words by comparing them with the literary standards of modern Ukrainian. The article is devoted to the detailed lexis comparative analyze of the original and translation (the material of the investigation is 6 stories by Ivan Franko and its remarkable Russian version translated by Lesia Ukrainka). The main aim of this research is to elucidate possible means of the semantic and stylistic losses into the artistic translations of close related Slavic languages (Ukrainian-Russian). The overcoming of language barrier in the translation mainly lies in the creative encoding of the words with expressive ethno cultural coloring. Therefore, the original components, that have no equivalents in any translation, are a justifiable and natural phenomenon. In the translations of close related Slavic languages the possibilities of encoding such units are much bigger than in case with unrelated languages. The following formations, which cannot be translated, have been researched: words-realities (historical, everyday), dialecticisms, colloquialisms, definite word forms. This article attempts to analyse specific functioning of syntactically indecomposable (lexical) phrases, important elements of Ukrainian nominative system, in Lesya Ukrainka’s works. Lexical, or syntactically indecomposable, phrases occupy a prominent place in the sphere of nominative derivation of Ukrainian language. Their semantic and structural specificity expresses Lesya Ukrainka’s personal style, reflects general trends of modern Ukrainian language. Lexical phrases with the richest semantic characteristics, that may denote temporal concepts, definitions from various fields of science, culture, social life, production, function as the names of geographical features, political groups of different status, persons, objects or state phrases from the Bible, literature, folklore, mythology and other areas have been denoted in the article. This article deals with the investigation of phraseological units which appear in Lesya Ukrainka’s private and public correspondence. Extensive attention is devoted to the way in which ideological, social, national and cultural factors are reflected in the language found in these sources, and the manner in which it manifests the potent influence which Lesya Ukrainka exerted intellectually and culturally. In this paper, consideration has been given to the very concept of the «phraseological unit», as well as to the distribution of these units. The usage of phraseological units in the letters of the poetess has been analyzed. Different types of phraseological unit transformations in Lesya Ukrainka's language style have been identified. Phraseological units as she utilizes them reflect a language-related world view in national images, of which the internal semantics symbolizes and expresses the evaluation of feelings, the state of nature, the phenomena of the inner world, and the writer's creative imagination. Her usage of phraseological units had an influence on the development of the language, on the establishment of norms, and on the formation of national traditions involving the culture and language of individuals. The article defines the place, role and the importance of Lesya Ukrainka poetry in the development of the Ukrainian literary language. The main artistic lingvo-stylestemes (linguistic units with stylistic meaning) of poet’s speech are described in the article as well. Lesya Ukrainka was a brilliant stylist in several dimensions: as a poet, an essayist, a critic, a playwright. In the linguistic discussions of the late XIX – the early XX centuries, being a spiritual pupil of Mikhail Dragomanov and a contemporary of Ivan Franko and Hrushevsky, she supported and developed the new philosophy of the Ukrainian literary language: to remove taboos and restrictions in the Ukrainian language and to expand the functional field of the Ukrainian language. Moreover, her aim was not only to admire the beauty of the national language, but build the cultural language, create the norms of standard language using the achievements of all major dialects, forming journalistic and scientific styles to develop education and the culture of work of the Ukrainian people in their native language. Enriching the development of the literary Ukrainian language, Lesya Ukrainka created and improved new poetic forms of speech, polished them, adding popular folklore and colloquial vocabulary to them. The article makes a point of common patterns and conditions for functioning predicative and substantive components in the semantic and syntactic sentence structure. It has been identified that the semantic simplicity of a sentence construction constitutes a predicate and all substantive syntaxemes dependent on its semantics. It has been indicated that a predicate is able to form subjective, objective, addressee, instrumental and locative semantic and syntactic dependences in a sentence structure. The main focus of the research is the analysis of objective semantic and syntactic dependence in the function of an objective syntaxeme. It is identical to the one-way dependence of a formal syntactic structure that is represented by an adverbial subordinate part of the sentence. It has been found that according to the lexical expression of a predicative component the objective dependence has the following semantic alternates such as dependence on the action object, dependence on the process object, dependence on the state object, dependence on the object of qualitative state, dependence on the object of state and attitude, dependence on the locative object of action. 2014-01-01T00:00:00Z
