Для аналізу взято переклади цього твору, що їх виконали О. Логвиненко українською мовою та Р. Райт-Ковальова російською мовою. Проведено компаративний аналіз терміна «просторіччя» та його відповідників в англомовній науковій літературі. Досліджено сферу вживання просторічних слів у вказаних вище мовах. Наведено приклади художнього відтворення англійських просторічних лексичних одиниць українською та російською мовами. Основну увагу звернено на лексико-граматичні та стилістичні особливості їх перекладу. The article deals with the problem of translation of English vernacular lexical units into Ukrainian based on J. D. Salinger’s novel “The Catcher in the Rye”. A comparative analysis of the term “vernacular” in English and Ukrainian linguistic literature has been made. The sphere of usage of the vernacular in the above languages has been investigated. Examples of the artistic rendering of English vernacular lexical units into Ukrainian and Russian have been provided. The main attention is paid to the lexical, grammatical and stylistic peculiarities of their translation.

The article provides the definition of the notion “abusive vocabulary”, pays attention to the importance and actuality of the research of the abusive vocabulary translation. The aim of the article is to make a short analysis of the abusive vocabulary and a study of the translation of the lexical units which denote the negative characteristics of men. The article systematizes lexical units denoting the negative characteristics of men. The article also offers several ways of reproduction of the abusive vocabulary into German and they are supported by the examples from the works of the post-modern writers.

Завдання статті полягають у виділенні, декодуванні символів вірша при здійсненні перекладознавчого аналізу тексту оригіналу з текстами перекладів, що стало новим кроком у вивченні рецепції творчості поетеси носіями вказаних мов й уможливило встановити неадекватне відтворення символів вірша у перекладах. The article deals with the problem of reproducing symbolism of the poem «The Soul selects her own Society» by E. Dickinson in Ukrainian and Russian translations, being a crucial issue in translation science. The tasks of the article consist in selecting and decoding symbols of the poem and in performing comparative analysis of the source text and two target texts so that to establish the adequacy level of reproducing symbols in the latter. The analysis is a new step in studies of E. Dickinson’s artistic legacy perception by Ukrainian and Russian native speakers. It has become possible to conclude that both Ukrainian and Russian translations of the poem have certain drawbacks including the change of modality while reproducing symbolic context of the original text, non-recognition of symbols and disregard for units carrying or implying a symbolic meaning. Both translators failed to achieve adequacy while reproducing symbols; playing a very important role in the poem.

The author reveals the technique of transfer of the main categories of onym lexicon from Russian into Ukrainian, considering the rights of the owner, the social and legal importance of objects of the nomination, feature of language systems and unity of approaches to their functioning in different proprial cultures. The article defines limits of possible changes in lexico-semantic, phonetic-graphic, morphological and spelling «drawing» of a proper name (in this case in the Russian-Ukrainian official context) on the basis of allocation in its structure of specific onym language units – phononyms, graphonyms and morphonyms, capable to keep and adequately transfer legal information about primary or modern owner in related languages. The most indicative examples of the possible translation of proper names are offered and the reasons of mistakes in modern nominative presentations are analyzed.

Аналіз якісного складу та кількісних масштабів мовно-змістових перекладацьких деформацій засвідчив, що українському перекладу властиві деякі ознаки вторинності. Наслідками є нагромадження семантичних і стилістичних відхилень від тексту оригіналу на лексичному та фразеологічному рівнях і надмір перекладацьких деформацій в українському перекладі. The article deals with contrastive analysis of the Ukrainian and Russian translations by A. Nemirova of the first volume of the J. R. R. Tolkien’s novel «The Lord of the Rings». The analysis has resulted in obtaining the quantitative data concerned with the structure and the scope of language- and meaning-related translation deformations in the both translations. Issuing from the main features of the translation deformations, the conclusion has been drawn that the Ukrainian translation shows some features revealing its secondary character. The appropriate negative consequences are gradual accumulation of semantic and stylistic deviations from the original text of the novel on the lexical and phraseological levels, as well as a more limited scope of creative translator’s work. An excess of the language-related translation deformations found in the Ukrainian translation is a compulsory result of the practice of secondary translation partly applied by A. Nemirova.

У статті досліджено оригінальні випадки вживання дефіса, які показують його ефективність як інструмента передачі авторської експресії у художньому тексті, також зроблено спробу класифікувати та визначити найбільш поширені випадки експресивного використання дефіса. In contemporary French writing, mass media, world blogs, advertising and literature there is a tendency to the unusual applying of graphical means in order to have a knock-on effect on the acquisition of something written. This article deals with the investigation of the unusual hyphen use, that shows its effectiveness as a tool for the transfer of the author’s expression in fiction. The attempt to classify and identify the most common cases of the hyphen expressive use in the modern French written language was made. The results of the investigations showed that the hyphen’s expressive potential appears in the case of recording hyphenated letters or syllables of one word, for combining single words in compound words, phrases and sentences. Expressive use of the hyphen transmits various individual features of intonation and points out the rethinking of the text elements written with its help.

The article presents the results of a study of symbolic features of alphabet signs of modern French. First meaningful functioning of the French alphabet signs as geometric shapes that reflect internally universal metaphorical concepts and reflect the basic principles of perception of the world, in particular harmony of opposites. The article establishes the basic concepts and characters that make up the figurative conceptual system initial letters of French, the most common of which is God / Devil, Life / Death , Male / Female , Start / End and others. Dualistic character of letters helped expose philosophical principle of harmony of opposites.

The article focuses on linguistic and cognitive peculiarities of the concept TERRORISM and specifies its actualizing in the English language with the help of innovations. The frame-based approach is the best way to describe the concept’s structure, made up of slots with their specifications and represent relations between its constituents. The author also highlights the phenomenon of the war of linguistic signs which includes the war of form (when warring parties use different lexical means to define each other) and the war of meaning (when warring parties use the same lexical units but with altered meaning to call each other). The means of verbalization of the concept TERRORISM reflect the perception of reality in the light of a certain ideology and mentality. Уперше проведено комплексний аналіз умов функціонування основних алофонів голосних у різних видах підготовленого мовлення. Зроблено висновок про наявність кількісної та якісної редукції наголошених голосних, ступінь якої збільшується у переказі. The article touches upon qualitative and quantitative features of stressed vowel phonemes in modern German prepared speech. It is necessary to determine the stressed vowel phonemes variability. For the first time the conditions of main vowel allophones’ functioning in different types of prepared speech was analyzed. The results prove qualitative and quantitative reduction of stressed vowels, which increases in the narration. Maximal modified in reading and narration are vowels of middle raising, which can move to high vowels, and high vowels can alternate with middle vowels. Differentiation of vowels according to the horizontal position of the tongue as one of the five vowels differential markers remains stable. Changes in the vertical position of the tongue, the degrees of vowels’ intensity and labialization vary considerably. The opposition of long and short vowels is most unstable.
